What equipment do you need to build a photo studio

To build a studio, what other equipment is necessary besides a camera

1.Light

Photography is the art of using light , and light is really important for photography, especially indoor studio shooting, which completely relies on various flashes. It can be said that it is difficult to achieve the desired effect without flash for indoor shooting. Even if it is as large as indoor space photography, professional photographers will use flash to create light to make the picture richer and three-dimensional. Of course, the indispensable part of the studio is the lighting. The standard studio is generally equipped with 3 to 5 lights, which can make the light effect richer. It can be used as the main light, auxiliary light, background light, contour light, etc. Don’t think more lights are better, because the more lights, the harder it is to control.

There are two types of lights: continuous light  and flash. Continuous light is very easy to use, just like shooting under the sun, the effect you see is the effect you see, and the metering can also be judged by in-camera metering.

2.Lampshade

Lampshades are divided into two categories, softboxes and standard shades. There are many types of these two types of lampshades. The function of the lampshade is to soften the harsh light and remove the shadows from the picture, making the photo look more natural and fresh. The original hardened relationship is softened, which directly reduces the cost of shooting. Avoid taking photos that are underexposed and the color of the face is not normal, which can help improve the fixed color temperature of the flash. A softbox is a light adjustment tool that is shaped like a box and emits soft light. Of course softboxes come in many shapes, each with a different function and appearance.

Square Softbox

A square softbox  will produce even soft light with gradient shadows. Due to the similarity in shape, it is best used to create soft light that resembles that of a window. Square means that the horizontal and vertical shadows will be the same size, and one of the differences between this softbox and the octagon is the highlights.

Rectangular Softbox

As one side gets smaller and the other gets bigger, the light spread gets a little narrower. The lights will cover a large area on one side and a smaller area on the other. This shape is very popular with fashion and portrait photographers as it allows you to light up your models at half height. Another advantage of a rectangular or square softbox  is the ability to illuminate the subject with one corner of the modifier, which allows you to make slight emphasis on parts or details of the object.

Octagonal  Softbox

A classic among softboxes, the octagonal softbox is more popular than the square softbox, the octagonal softbox  produces light very similar to a similarly sized square softbox, albeit slightly more rounded and wider.

Sixteen Support Rod Parabolic Softbox

The closer the box mouth is to a circle, the larger the luminous surface, the more uniform and soft the light effect will be, and the more natural the transition of light and shadow edges will be.

spherical Softbox

The spherical design can illuminate in all directions, and the light is soft and not dazzling. The difference from the octagonal diffuser is the directionality of the light. The spherical diffuser is a diffused diffuser, while the octagonal diffuser is a directional light

Soft umbrella

When the light passes through the umbrella surface, it causes scattering to form a beam of diffused light.

3.Color filter

Change the color temperature of the light, install it in the card slot of the light  shield, you can choose red, blue, yellow and other colors, and there is a filter with soft light effect, which can soften the hardness.

4.Reflector Panel

The reflector can be used to fill light and change the contrast, and its colors are white, gold, black, silver and so on. White is better for those overly bright summer days because white is softer than silver. Blacks create shadows, and if the subject’s face is too bright, a black reflector can be used. Or create extra depth and points of interest on a well-lit subject for added contrast. On the other hand, the shape of the board has the shape of circle, square, rectangle and triangle, the larger the area, the more the light  scatters, which also softens the light.

5.Background

Advertising photography generally uses solid color or gradient background cloth, while art photography uses various fancy background cloths according to fashion trends to create a colorful and popular atmosphere.

The background cloth is generally fixed on the wall or ceiling with a background gallows shaft, and is retracted and used through the cable. If you shoot half-length portraits, it is enough to put the background cloth halfway down. If you need to shoot full-length portraits, the background cloth can be extended all the way to the ground. The background cloth has many colors : red, blue, yellow, green, pink, purple, black, gray, white, etc. You can choose according to your needs.
